News highlights from the global education scene
 

January 2020 was an eventful month for education unions. We celebrated the second edition of the International Day of Education, took a stand against the privatisation of education in Morocco, commemorated the Holocaust, and stood in solidarity with many of our colleagues fighting for free quality public education across the world.

International Day of Education: the world needs another 69 million teachers

On the International Day of Education, unions warn that the world is not facing a global learning crisis, but a global education funding crisis. The only way to achieve Sustainable Development Goal 4 and ensure inclusive and equitable education for all is to fund free quality public education.

Educators from 18 countries on 4 continents came together in Krakow this week to mark 75 years since the liberation of the Auschwitz-Birkenau death and concentration camp, to commemorate the victims and to discuss the best ways to teach the Holocaust to new generations.
